Demoyacht Independence Demonstrates Power Systems in Nordic Tour
In the coming three months, our demonstration yacht “Independence” will embark on a special journey through Northern Europe: the Nordic Tour 2024. During various stopovers, our dealers will come aboard to experience our state-of-the-art maritime power systems in practice firsthand. Starting from the port of Harlingen in the Netherlands, the elegant Sturiër 555 CS demonstration yacht will sail to 8 coastal cities in Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. The final destination will be the stunning Norwegian city of Bergen, known for its rich maritime history and breathtaking scenery.
14 kVA Battery-Based Power System
For its energy supply, the Independence is equipped with the zero-emission OctoPower 14 + power system. This is a complete AC/DC installation based on a battery bank of 1600 Ah 24 VDC, charged by a 450 Amp DC generator charging system and a 14 kVA AC PowerCube sine wave inverter to operate the various 230 V 50 Hz appliances including the conditioning. Designed with sustainability and maximum comfort in mind, this system ensures a smooth and quiet operation. During the Nordic Tour, special attention will be given to the recently launched super compact Piccolo 6. This generator is equipped with a 2 cylinder diesel engine that is fully compliant with Stage 5/EPA Tier 4 emission norms. Its audible noise level is unique, only 51 dB(A) at 2700 rpm, making it very quiet!
WhisperCare: Always and Everywhere Access to Your Energy Systems
Another highlight on board is WhisperCare: the software to control and manage the WhisperPower power system wherever, whenever and with whatever device you want. Thanks to WhisperCare, you have access to your energy system at any time and anywhere in the world via the internet with devices like a mobile phone, tablet or laptop. On the Independence itself the software is integrated into the Simrad NSO evo2 Glass Bridge MFD (multifunction display). This makes reading and controlling simple from one clear dashboard. WhisperCare provides real-time insights and historical data. In addition to remote control, there are many smart features to set up such as automatic start-stop of generator(s), maintenance and fault finding notifications.
About Demoyacht Independence
The Independence (17 x 4.90 meters) is a traditional trawler-style displacement yacht, built in 2007 by Jachtwerf Volharding from Stavoren, Netherlands. In 2010 the yacht was completely converted into a demonstration yacht for WhisperPower. All our products are tested over a long period under real-life conditions before they become available on the market. Besides demonstrations we also use the Independence for these testing purposes. The ship is powered by 2 Deutz diesel engines each with 225 HP and is equipped with high-end navigation and stabilization equipment including a Najad zero-speed system. This device ensures a comfortable stay on board.
