M.Y. Independence
This sturdy, steel ship was commissioned in to service in September 2008 as a demonstration yacht for the shipyard De Volharding, Stavoren and several manufacturers of marine equipment including WhisperPower.
M.Y. Independence cruises through Europe to demonstrate the systems on board to local yards, installers, dealers and yacht owners.

Technical specifications of the M.Y. Independence
The technical system
The M.Y. Independence was launched in 2008, initially with a Mastervolt system. After two years of navigation in the MED area, the yacht came back to the Netherlands with the purpose to function as an instruction and demonstration yacht for WhisperPower customers and employees. In 2012, the original onboard electrical system was replaced by a new energy system manufactured by WhisperPower, making the stay on board more comfortable and allowing owners to live on board the whole year around.
Optimized comfort by system design
In 2019, WhisperPower’s demonstration ship underwent a substantial technical and cosmetic refit earlier. The project was carried out between January and May by a team of experienced maritime specialists in the field of electronics, mechanics and woodworking. The yacht, which was built in 2008 in Stavoren by De Volharding, has been equipped now with up-to-date new navigation, communication and comfort equipment. All systems are CANbus connectable to WhisperPower’s WhisperConnect monitoring network that also enables remote reading and control. This concept is offered as an optional WhisperCare product to owners and operators of yachts, vessels, vehicles or objects without public grid connection.

Air conditioning
Webasto Blue Cool 32,000 BTU chiller system model C 32 T, connected to 4 air handlers. Equipped with the new digital controls, also suitable for heating control.
Heating & boiler combination
- Post Marine Heating Eco line, 15 kW – boiler works electrically if land power is present.
- Connected to air handlers and 3 new radiators spread over the ship. Pool-proof.
- Control boiler and remote heating.
The electrical system
The electrical installation was already upgraded in the previous years. The 14 kVA WhisperPower AC PowerCube Super Inverter provides the entire AC on-board network. Even with 10 ampere shore power for example, all 230 V devices can be used. The 27 kVA Whisper generator on board dates from the old days and is equipped with an 11 kW PTO hydraulic pump for stabilization at anchor (Naiad), which is and remains handy. The Piccolo M GV/2 (4.3 kW DC) diesel generator is an excellent generator which is on average sufficient to power the on-board system and charge the 1650 Ah battery bank.(2 volt cells)
An important addition to the system are the two WhisperSolar panels (185 Wp /24 V) with the Suntrack Pro controller connected to the service battery and the Touch panel. The electric “dashboard” has been upgraded and is now more user friendly, non-electric functions have also been added, such as the air – conditioning and heating.
